Rest - beyond holidays

When I talk to people, I often hear about all the great stuff they have been doing. Just back from a fantastic holiday. All the activities over the weekend. All the amazing experiences provided for the children. But what most of these stories end with is: “It was great, but now I need a holiday.” Which, of course, they never get, because it’s business as usual. The ball keeps rolling. There’s just the next thing waiting. Does that ring a bell?

When did you last feel rested and recharged? I mean, in a way that lasted longer than until the next coffee or matcha?
The mind is constantly racing, and the to-do list is never-ending. You are navigating between your family and household, work, and friends. Trying to stay on top, have a good time, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. Maybe you have even factored in some downtime, the gym, or reading a book. Yet life pulls in various ways, non-stop. So, how to actually get some rest?

Resting is a rebellious act, a lifeline, and a necessity
We live in a world that rewards exhaustion and calls it ambition. Where stopping feels almost dangerous, and stillness feels like failure. This mentality is deeply ingrained in our being. The way we think and behave. What we expect from ourselves and others. Not only at work, but also at home. In our personal time and space. “What did you do?” Most people feel uncomfortable if they are not productive in some way. Internalised and incorporated capitalism.

Bringing the ability and quality of rest into our daily life is not only a rebellious act of not being productive for a moment.
It is also a lifeline to manage mental load and stress, to keep the feet on the ground, and to do one step at a time. Essentially, the ability to rest is the most important foundation for finding a joyful and nourishing flow in life. We need to be rested to see the full picture, gain clarity, and act intentionally.

The gatekeepers: beliefs, mind-sets, and more

In reality, many things can block us from resting, a chronic state of alertness, or a mindset full of beliefs about performance and productivity, worries about what we might meet inside us when we actually have time to listen. Misconceptions about what it requires to find rest. Did you even know there are 7 forms of rest?
